- Identify the Joint Commission 10 measures for disease specific care of the stroke patient.
- Discuss pre-hospital patient management goals.
- Describe current diagnostic technology related to the diagnosis of acute stroke.
- Describe several neuro-interventional methods used to treat acute stroke.
- Identify the severity of stroke using the NIHSS.
- Discuss the role of tPA, intravenous tissue plasminogen activator, a treatment of acute ischemic stroke.
- Identify the pharmacological management of the patient with stroke.
- Discuss neurosurgical intervention in acute stroke.
- Discuss current approaches toward secondary prevention.
- Discuss interventions and treatments for carotid artery disease and stroke.
- Identify the process of functional assessment, rehabilitation treatment, level of care and goals.
- Discuss the rational for intensive glycemic control and consequences of hyperglycemia in the stroke patient.
