Jeffrey L. Carson, MD

Dr. Jeffrey L. Carson is Chief in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where he is also the Richard C. Reynolds, MD Chair in General Internal Medicine. Dr. Carson’s appointments at UMDNJ also include Medical Director for the Center for Innovations in Bloodless Surgery and Medicine as well as Medical Director of the Executive Health Program.

Dr. Carson’s research has focused on blood management and adverse effects of blood transfusion. He has published over 100 articles and more than 30 books and book chapters including publications in JAMA, the Lancet, and Transfusion. Dr. Carson has been included in the Best Doctor list for many years and has been recipient of 6 teaching awards including the 2002 Alpha Omega Honor Medical Society Faculty Recognition Award.

Dr. Carson received his medical degree from Hahneman Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he also completed an internship, residency and chief residency at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital. He received his research training in epidemiology and biostatistics as a Henry J Kaiser Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. He was Fogarty Senior International Fellow at the University of Oxford in 1995-1996.

Michael B. Steinberg, MD, M.P.H.

Michael B. Steinberg, MD, M.P.H.

Dr. Michael Steinberg is a general internist with dual appointments at the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the School of Public Health. In addition to his medical degree, he has masters’ level training in the field of public health education and behavioral science. He is actively teaching in the internal medicine residency program, and has received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Department of Medicine.

In addition he is the Medical Director of the School of Public health-Tobacco Dependence Clinic. He has published and presented on several topics related to preventive medicine and tobacco issues. His research interests include delivery of clinical preventive services and tobacco dependence treatment in primary care and hospital settings.

Dr Steinberg received his BA from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, his Masters’ in Public Health and Medical Degree from RWJMS-UMDNJ. Dr Steinberg completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Gabriela S. Ferreira, MD
Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine

Gabriela Ferreira, MD

Dr. Gabriela Ferreira is a general internist with the Division of General Internal Medicine, UMDNJ and is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey- Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She received her medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School, completed a program in Clinical Effectiveness at Harvard Medical School/Harvard School of Public Health and received her BA in biochemistry at Harvard University. She completed her medical residency at the University of Massachusetts, where she was also a chief resident.

She currently practices inpatient hospital medicine as well as an outpatient clinical practice. Her clinical interests include perioperative medicine and thromboembolism. Dr. Ferreira is responsible for service on general medical wards with teaching responsibilities for medical students and residents.

She has received several awards and honors which include Resident teaching award UMDNJ, Resident Leadership in Primary Care Award, Dartmouth College Community Health Service Award. She has also contributed to several publications.

Gloria A. Bachman
Associate Dean for Women’s Health

Gloria A. Bachman

A leading expert in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Gloria Bachmann is a well known authority on women throughout the life span. She holds numerous professional positions at University Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School including Director of the Women’s Health Institute and Chief of the OB/GYN service at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Her excellence in advancing the understanding of obstetrics and gynecology has been recognized by the profession which has accorded her numerous awards. Honors include Best Teacher Award, the prestigious Woodrow Wilson/Johnson and Johnson Award for her work in research trials and the Award of Excellence from the Women’s Heart Foundation for her efforts on behalf of women’s heart health.

Dr. Bachmann earned her BA from Rutgers University, an M.M.S. degree from Rutgers Medical School and her MD from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.
