Recto-Vaginal and Vesico-Vaginal Fistula Treatment
Pelvic Floor and Incontinence Program
Fistulas
A fistula is an abnormal connection between two organs. In the case of a recto-vaginal fistula, the abnormal connection is between the rectum and vagina. A vesico-vaginal fistula is an abnormal connection between the bladder and the vagina. Fistulas may be caused by trauma during childbirth, radiation or malignancies. Some symptoms of fistulas may include excessive stools and urine coming from the vagina.
Treatment of Fistulas
Using a multidisciplinary approach, Robert Wood Johnson physicians typically use surgery to repair a fistula.
