John E. Langenfeld, M.D.
Chief of General Thoracic Surgery
Dr. John E. Langenfeld is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and Chief of General Thoracic Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Dr. Langenfeld is board certified in Thoracic Surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Society of University Surgeons, American Association for Cancer Research, Association for Academic Surgery, General Thoracic Surgical Club, and Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ).
After receiving his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Langenfeld completed an internship in surgery and general surgery residency at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey. He went on to complete a fellowship in thoracic surgery and research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, New York. He then completed a second fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. He is the recipient of a grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI)/National Institutes of Health (NIH) for $405,000 to study “The role of a bone morphogenetic protein in lung cancer.”
