Tuesday, June 14, 2005

New Brunswick, NJ - Patients at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital are extremely satisfied with their doctors, according to patient satisfaction surveys. In fact, patients at the New Brunswick hospital gave their doctors higher scores than at 99 percent of all New Jersey hospitals surveyed by Press Ganey Associates, a health industry patient satisfaction measurement firm.

The survey asked patients to rate their doctor across various criteria, including the time they spend with them, their skill, their friendliness and courtesy, and how well they kept them informed.

The result was an overall doctor satisfaction ranking that placed Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital among the top 1 percent of hospitals in the state.

When ranked against other large hospitals in the United States, those with between 450 and 600 beds, patients at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital ranked their doctors in the 95th percentile, meaning they scored in the top five percent among its peers nationally.

"Quality and satisfaction go hand in hand," said Dr. Peter Amenta, the hospital's senior vice president for medical affairs and chief of staff. "Our patients are very satisfied, not just with the medical treatment their doctors give them, but with how well they treat them as people."

The data is from patient surveys received during the first quarter of 2005.
