Gil Blitz Elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital has named Montgomery Township resident Gil Blitz as its new board chairman. Mr. Blitz, a senior vice president with UBS Financial Services, was elected to a three-year term at the hospital’s annual meeting on May 3.
Mr. Blitz has served on the hospital board since 1990, most recently as first vice chairman.

“Gil Blitz brings expertise in business, a thorough knowledge of the hospital and a deep commitment to the local community and region,” said hospital President and CEO Clifton R. Lacy, MD. “He has already distinguished himself as an outstanding board member and we are delighted he will now serve as chairman.”
Mr. Blitz and his family have a long tradition of involvement with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. His father-in-law, Ralph Voorhees, was a hospital board member and former chairman of the board, and currently serves on the board of the RWJ University Hospital Foundation.
Mr. Blitz’s wife, Jane (Voorhees) Blitz, served as president of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Auxiliary. The Blitz’s children have continued the tradition: A son, Garrett, and daughter, Jocelyn, have both been hospital Gift Shop volunteers.
Mr. Blitz also previously served on the board of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton.

A number of recent awards and recognitions have highlighted the hospital’s status as a leading academic medical center. The hospital was recently ranked as the sixth best hospital in the nation in a study by Harvard University researchers for The Commonwealth Fund that assessed treatment of heart attack, congestive heart failure and pneumonia.
Consumers Digest magazine last year ranked RWJUH among the top five hospitals in the nation for patient safety initiatives. RWJUH also had more top-rated physicians than any hospital in New Jersey listed in the New York magazine and New Jersey Monthly 2005 “Best Doctors” issues. In addition, RWJUH was the fourth hospital in the nation to win the Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence three times.
Mr. Blitz is a native of Kankakee, Illinois, and attended the University of Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Blitz have four children: two sons, Garrett and Jeremiah; and two daughters, Jocelyn and Moriah.
