Piscataway Resident John Hoffman Elected Chairman of RWJUH Board of Directors

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) has named Piscataway resident John Hoffman, Esq., as its new board chairman. Mr. Hoffman, who is currently an attorney and shareholder of the law firm Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, was elected to a three-year term at the hospital’s annual meeting on May 13.

Prior to this appointment, Mr. Hoffman served as a member and chair of the board’s finance committee.

“John Hoffman brings enormous talent, creativity and energy to his new role,” said Stephen K. Jones, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. “During his time on the board, John has offered us tremendous insight on a broad range of issues affecting our finance committee and our hospital as a whole.”

Mr. Hoffman is looking forward to assuming his new role on the board.

“There is little doubt that the health care industry and the national economy as a whole are facing some challenging times,” Mr. Hoffman notes. “As Chairman, I will remain committed to helping RWJUH maintain its fiscal strength and exploring new partnerships where we can enhance and expand services for both our patients and the community.”

He also wants to further expand RWJUH’s reputation for being a health care provider of choice that offers world-class medical care to New Jersey residents. RWJUH is the principal hospital of UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

“We will continue to pursue the latest advances in medicine and destination therapies like the AbioCor artificial replacement heart and proton beam cancer therapy to further expand our reputation as a national leader in providing advanced technologies that are available at only a small number of elite institutions nationwide,” Mr. Hoffman explained. “I also look forward to working with the board, our hospital leadership and the leadership of our partner institutions to establish a new Community Relations Committee to strengthen our presence in and better serve the needs of our community.”

In addition to his service on the RWJUH Board of Directors, Mr. Hoffman is a general counsel to Middlesex County College, construction counsel to the Middlesex County Utilities Authority and special counsel to the New Brunswick Parking and Housing Authority. Mr. Hoffman is a former chair of the RWJ University Hospital Foundation Board and is a current member of the Middlesex County College Foundation Board. He also serves on the Board of Directors of New Jersey American Water Company, Liberty Water Company, Edison Water Company and Long Island Water Corporation. He is also a member of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Board of Trustees.

Mr. Hoffman is an active participant in many civic organizations and has earned several honors for his community involvement. In 2000, he was voted “Citizen of the Year” by the Woodbridge Chamber of Commerce, and has also been recognized by both the Middlesex County Regional Chamber of Commerce and the American Cancer Society for his involvement with those organizations. In 1998, he won the “Torch of Liberty” award from the Anti-Defamation League— an honor recognized in a joint legislative resolution of the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly. Mr. Hoffman also received the 2007 Saint Thomas More Award from the Diocese of Metuchen.
