RWJUH is One of Only Four Hospitals in the Nation to be Awarded Magnet Status in Nursing Excellence Three Times
Thursday, February 02, 2006
New Brunswick, NJ – Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital yesterday received re-designation as a Magnet hospital from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and today is one of only four facilities in the country to receive this designation three times.
“This prestigious award is the highest honor in nursing for hospitals,” said Kathi Sengin, RN, PhD, CNAA, senior vice president of nursing and patient services. “Our nursing excellence helps to attract the best and brightest healthcare professionals to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.”
Independent research has shown that Magnet hospitals have better patient outcomes, shorter lengths of stay, more time spent with patients, lower patient mortality rates and higher patient satisfaction scores. In addition, facilities with Magnet status tend to have less turnover and higher rates of job satisfaction among nurses.
To achieve Magnet status, RWJUH completed a rigorous review of procedures, standards and patient outcome data, as well as a site visit. The re-designation lasts four years.
The Magnet recertification reinforces the status of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital as one of the region’s leading hospitals. Patients rated RWJUH’s nursing care among the top two percent in the nation during the fourth quarter of 2005, according to Press Ganey. In 2005, Consumers Digest ranked RWJUH among the top five hospitals in the nation for patient safety. RWJUH also had more top-rated physicians than any hospital in New Jersey listed in New York magazine and New Jersey Monthly’s 2005 “Best Doctors” issues.
