The Middlesex County Police Chiefs Association spread some holiday cheer recently at The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital (BMSCH) at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) when it donated $2,000 from the total proceeds it raised from the association’s annual charity golf tournament.
Presenting the check to Gursky was South Brunswick Police Chief and Association President Ray Hayducka. Also on hand during the presentation were, from left to right: Metuchen Police Chief James Keane, Dunellen Police Chief Gerard Cappella, Retired Dunellen Police Chief Joe DeBiase, Monroe Township Police Chief John Kraivec and Highland Park Police Chief Stephen Rizco.
According to Barbara Gursky, MA, CCLS, Director of Child Life at BMSCH, the donation will help fund a wide range of programs to help brighten the days of children who are patients at BMSCH.
“It’s no secret that the entire nation continues to face extremely challenging economic times,” Gursky explained. “That’s why donations from generous groups such as the Middlesex County Police Chiefs Association are so important. Their donation and others like them give us the extra resources we need to make the children’s stay here as comfortable and cheerful as we possibly can.”
Gursky said the money will be used to purchase toys, as well as board and video games. It will also help pay for special events such as the Halloween party, which BMSCH holds annually for hospitalized children.
According to Chief Hayducka, this is the third consecutive year that the Middlesex County Police Chiefs Association has donated funds raised from their charity golf tournament to local children’s hospitals.
Chief Kraviec said that this year’s tournament continued to thrive despite the down economy.
“The people who regularly play in the tournament know what we are trying to accomplish, so they continue to come out and support us,” Chief Kraviec explained.
The tournament is held at Forsgate Country Club in Jamesburg. The next tournament will take place on May 11, 2010.
