President and CEO of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Again Named to List of 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – A national health care magazine has again included Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital President and CEO Clifton R. Lacy, MD, on its annual ranking of the nation’s 50 most powerful physician executives.

Dr. Lacy was ranked number 20 on the list, which was published in the April 24 issue of Modern Healthcare and its sister publication, Modern Physician.

Other top finishers included U.S. Senator William Frist, MD, of Tennessee, and Mark McClellan, administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in Baltimore, Maryland.

Prior to becoming president and CEO of RWJUH, Dr. Lacy served as commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. As commissioner, Dr. Lacy was characterized as a dynamic leader and visionary whose efforts helped New Jersey become a national leader in health care quality and patient safety, scientific research, and preparedness for the health-related consequences of terrorism.

Under Dr. Lacy’s leadership, RWJUH has earned significant national recognition. Consumers Digest magazine ranked the hospital fifth in the nation in patient safety initiatives in 2005. A recent study by researchers at Harvard University published by The Commonwealth Fund rated Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital sixth in the nation in quality of care. RWJUH was also ranked as one of the nation’s top 10 health care facilities in its use of technology by Health Imaging & IT Magazine. Furthermore, the American Nurses Credentialing Center recently gave the hospital its highest level of recognition, the prestigious Magnet Award, for the third consecutive time.
