Thursday, August 03, 2006

New Brunswick, NJ - Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital’s Regional Perinatal Center has been selected as a 2006 Regional Program of Quality by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. RWJUH is one of 13 hospitals to be recognized for its services to mothers and newborns.

Horizon’s Regional Program of Quality is designed to help patients and referring physicians choose a hospital that best fits their needs by recognizing facilities that have demonstrated certain performance standards. RWJUH is also recognized as a Regional Program of Quality for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) and Angioplasty Procedures, and Specialty Pediatric Services.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is designated as a Regional Perinatal Center – the highest designation in the state’s scope of obstetric and neonatal services – offering the latest technology to treat high-risk pregnancies as well as the most critically ill newborns. The hospital’s renowned maternal-fetal medicine and neonatology specialists provide a full array of services and support for mothers and babies.

The hospital offers a neonatal intensive care unit, special care nursery, labor and delivery suites, and all-private post-partum rooms featuring amenities such as refrigerators, DVD/VCR players, a private bathroom and sleeper-chairs that allow fathers or other family members to comfortably spend the night.

The hospital’s recognition by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey is one of a number of recent awards and recognitions that have highlighted the hospital’s status as one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers. The hospital was recently ranked as the sixth best hospital in the nation in a Harvard University study for The Commonwealth Fund that assessed treatment of heart attack, congestive heart failure and pneumonia. Consumers Digest magazine last year ranked RWJUH among the top five hospitals in the nation for patient safety initiatives. RWJUH also had more top-rated physicians than any hospital in New Jersey listed in the New York magazine and New Jersey Monthly 2005 “Best Doctors” issues. In addition, RWJUH was only the fourth hospital in the nation to win the Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence three times.
