About the Unit
8T is a 20-bed unit, including individual private rooms for post-transplant patients. 8T is located in the Tower Building on the eighth floor. 8T is open 24-hours- a-day, 7-days-a-week. The hemodialysis unit is located on the same floor.

Case Manager: Debra Subers, BSN, RN-BC
Social Worker: Robin Ring, MSW, LSW
There are 1-2 critical care technicians each shift who assist with basic patient care. There is a unit secretary on each shift to perform data entry and secretarial duties.
Patient population
The 8T nursing staff cares for acute care medical-surgical patients ages 18 years through the lifespan. 8T specializes in the care for acute and chronic renial failure patients. 8Tower is also home to the inpatient kidney and pancreas transplant program.
Patient Care Needs
Patients on 8T receive 1:5 nursing care with the exception for immediate post-op transplants receiving 1:1 care. Patient care includes but is not limited to management of patients with peritoneal dialysis, post-operative care, patient controlled analgesic, administration of blood products, cardiac monitoring and interpretation, and antibiotic therapy. Intravenous pharmacological agents including heparin, lasix, bumex, dobutamine (non titrating), and renal does dopamine.

Nursing care is provided by professional registered nurses competent in the care of medical-surgical patients. Competencies include, but are not limited to:
- Telemetry certification
- IV certification
- CVP monitoring
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Pain management
- Central line management
- Kidney transplant
- Pancreas transplant
- Chest tubes
