Pediatric Hematology-Oncology (CHO2)

Pediatric Hematology-Oncology (CHO2)

About the Unit

CHO2 is a 10-bed unit, located in the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital on the second floor. All patient rooms are private rooms with built-in sleeping areas for the parents.

The nurse to patient ration on CHO2 is 1:3-1:4. There is one pediatric care technician each shift who assists with basic patient care. There is a unit secretary on each shift to perform data entry and other secretarial duties.

Patient population

The CHO2 nursing staff cares for patients from infancy to 21 years of age.  The patients on this unit are admitted for diagnoses related to Pediatric Hematology and Pediatric Oncology specialties.

Patient Care Needs

Patients on CHO2 require 1:3 or 1:4 nursing care.  Promoting family centered care is a top priority.  Child Life services are available 7 days-a-week. Our nurses are skilled clinicians, able to care for all the patient’s many highly technical needs.

About Our Nurses

Nursing care is provided by professional registered nurses competent in the care of pediatric oncology patients. Our pediatric nurses are held to very high standards. Each pediatric nurse is skilled in starting intravenous lines (IVs) and caring for central lines. All nurses are required to have CPR and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications. In addition, some nurses have attained an additional certification in their specialty, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
