Here’s a danger you may not have thought of: exploding eggs. While it might sound silly, the result can be devastating. The second someone touches a whole egg that’s been cooked in a microwave, the shell can explode—faster than she can blink. The boiling-hot contents can burn the face and eyes, sometimes causing permanent vision loss.

As with many accidents, prevention is key. So, for cooking eggs in the shell, stick with the old-fashioned methods.
