Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s Emergency Medical Services Department is the primary advanced life support provider to most of Somerset County, and also provides secondary coverage to portions of Hunterdon, Middlesex, Mercer and Morris counties.

Our Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset based Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) provides coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The medical center also has a unit based in Hillsborough, available between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. seven days a week. Together, these units respond to more than 6,000 requests for service annually.

In addition to providing MICU service, the Emergency Medical Services Department also offers a variety of community, EMS and corporate education programs including first aid and CPR.

What Is EMS?

As a value-added service to the community, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset recently purchased an MICU that not only provides advanced life support, but also can respond if a local volunteer rescue squad is unavailable.
