Rutgers HPO/RWJ Volunteer Intensive Program

This program is a special collaboration with the Rutgers Health Professions Office. It offers students the opportunity for a limited one-semester volunteer commitment of 50 hours. The HPO/RWJ VIP is offered three times a year to coincide with the academic calendar (fall, spring, summer). If accepted into the program, volunteers will commit to one four-hour shift in a selected department for a minimum of 50 hours of service in 15 weeks.

To be eligible for this program, students must have the following:
  • A file in the Health Professions Office for at least a month
  • Completed at least one year (two semesters) at Rutgers, New Brunswick
  • Completed at least one basic science sequence (Biology 119:115 and 116, or Chemistry 160:161 and 162, for example) at RU New Brunswick, or two upper level science courses if they have AP credit for the basic sciences
  • Must have a grade point average of 3.0, or higher
Interested students meeting the above qualifications should contact an advisor at Rutgers HPO to discuss in more detail and receive an application. Please do not complete the online volunteer profile form. Doing so will complicate the application process and may result in exclusion from the program.

Other College Students

All other college students, including other students at Rutgers, are encouraged to complete the respective adult volunteer profile form for their hospital campus of interest.
