Meet the Staff

Katie Holterman, M.S. CCC-SLP, BRS-S (Board Recognized Specialist in Swallowing), Clinical Supervisor of Speech Pathology Department has been with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset since 2001. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Rhode Island and her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Ithaca College. She specializes in the areas of dysphagia, voice, cognitive communication impairments and apraxia for adults and apraxia and auditory/language processing for pediatrics.  Katie enjoys watching and playing baseball, especially the Yankees, enjoys music and plays several musical instruments.


 

Jennifer Coutinho, M.S. CCC-SLP, joined Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in 2007. She received her Bachelors degree from Rutgers University and her Master of Science degree in Speech Pathology from Ithaca College.  She specializes in the areas of head and neck cancer rehabilitation, dysphagia, voice, and rehab for neurological disorders. Jennifer is also a fine artist, focusing in painting, printmaking and photography.

 

Abby Schmidt, M.S. CCC-SLP, joined Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in 2009.  She received her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Duquesne University. She specializes in the areas of adult language disorders, augmentative and alternative communication assessment and training, dysphagia and pediatric speech disorders. Abby has a fondness for York Peppermint Patties!


Yasmeen Beg, M.S. CCC-SLP, joined Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in 2010.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Toronto and her Master of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology from New York Medical College.  She specializes in the areas of pediatric language disorders/delays/autism, Adult Language disorders and voice disorders.  Yasmeen loves to travel and hopes one day to have visited all continents in the world.


 
 

Certifications and Achievements: 

The above staff members take pride in keeping up with the latest research and developing skills, training and certifications above and beyond the entry level masters degree requirement for speech pathology.  Each year, the staff attend over 25 separate continuing education courses and 75% of the employees continually earn  awards provided by the American Speech and Hearing Association for outstanding continued education hours (over 70 hours in a 2 year period, 3 times the minimum requirement for licensure).  Our staff our certified/trained in the following areas:

All Speech Pathologists hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association. 

 

Support Staff

Nancy Hoffman joined Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in 2008 following 17 years at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center, where she was coordinator of the birth records division. She has previously been employed at Stillman Advertising and the Medical Society of New York. As rehab medical secretary her responsibilities include department scheduling, verifying insurance benefits and obtaining authorizations, registering patients for department visits, and most of all meeting and greeting our patients with a smile and a friendly manner that lets our patients know they are welcomed into our “home”!!!! Nancy enjoys crafting, gardening and socializing with friends. She has a dream on her “bucket list” to drive a racecar someday.
