Bound Brook Women of the Moose Raise $6,000 for Steeplechase Cancer Center

January 2, 2013

The Women of the Moose of Bound Brook recently presented The Steeplechase Cancer Center at Somerset Medical Center with a check for $6,337 raised from their Annual Spaghetti Dinner.  Held at the Bound Brook lodge in October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the dinner was open to the community. A special basket raffle was also held to benefit the cancer center.

Dr. Kathleen Toomey, medical director of The Steeplechase Cancer Center at Somerset Medical Center, attended the dinner with her family and is one of the many participants who look forward to this annual event.  “The food is wonderful and the women and men who put this event together are the best.  I can’t wait for next year!”  exclaims Dr. Toomey. “We are so grateful for the Bound Brook Women of the Moose’s continued support of The Steeplechase Cancer Center.”

Over the past two years, the Bound Brook Women of the Moose #1232 has raised $10,000 for the cancer center through their annual spaghetti dinner. The members and families prepare and serve the food and secure basket donations from area merchants.

The Steeplechase Cancer Center enables Central New Jersey cancer patients to see their doctors, undergo outpatient treatment and participate in promising cancer research studies – all in one place close to home. The three-story, 63,000-square-foot facility, which opened in 2007, houses radiation therapy services, infusion therapy, breast imaging services, the medical center’s research team, oncologists’ and surgeons’ offices, nutritional counseling, patient navigator services, a patient resource library, the Sanofi US Wellness Boutique and complementary medicine services, such as yoga, t’ai chi, meditation and massage. The Sanofi US Breast Care Program is one of only a select few in New Jersey to achieve full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and has also been named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
