Somerville Strongman Contest Benefits Cancer Center

Strength & Honor Fitness of Somerville recently raised $5,500 for The Steeplechase Cancer Center at Somerset Medical Center through "The Gladiator Games II: Redemption" an amateur strongman contest. Five male competitors and 11 female competitors fought to own the “Strongman in Somerville” title in the novice category for beginners and intermediates and an open class for more experienced competitors. The competition included an Axle clean and press,Tire flip, Farmer’s Walk, Max deadlift; Suicide medley and Atlas stone load.

Strength & Honor Fitness donated proceeds from the event’s registration fees, baked goods sold at the event and a raffle of gifts from local vendors. The Gladiator Games was the second fundraiser the fitness center has held to benefit The Steeplechase Cancer Center, raising more than $11,500 in total donations.

The Steeplechase Cancer Center enables Central New Jersey cancer patients to see their doctors, undergo outpatient treatment and participate in promising cancer research studies – all in one place close to home. The three-story, 63,000-square-foot facility, which opened in 2007, houses radiation therapy services, infusion therapy, breast imaging services, the medical center’s research team, oncologists’ and surgeons’ offices, nutritional counseling, patient navigator services, a patient resource library, the Sanofi US Wellness Boutique and complementary medicine services, such as yoga, t’ai chi, meditation and massage. The Sanofi US Breast Care Program is one of only a select few in New Jersey to achieve full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and has also been named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
