The Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2017. Patients can see their doctors, get screenings, undergo treatment and access clinical trials all in one location - right here in their community.

Karen Haake was frightened after receiving a cervical cancer diagnosis, but she believed that her experience would be a positive one. While getting treatment at the Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, Karen used art therapy to paint the pain away. After her treatment, she wanted to help others heal through art. Now Karen teaches a watercolor painting class at Steeplechase for current cancer patients and patients in remission.

Gene Armstead was once the tallest basketball player in Rutgers University history and helped lead his team to the Final Four. After being diagnosed with prostate cancer, Gene was able to find the same support and camaraderie that he had on the court in a men's cancer support group held at the Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. With the help of his family, staff, and his support group, Gene was able to fight the fight and beat his cancer into remission.
