Steeplechase Cancer Center

The Steeplechase Cancer Center provides comprehensive cancer care all in one place close to home. The Steeplechase Cancer Center enables central New Jersey cancer patients to see their doctors, undergo outpatient treatment and participate in promising cancer research studies. The three-story, 63,000-square-foot facility houses radiation therapy services, infusion therapy, breast imaging services, a lung cancer screening program, PET/CT imaging services, the hospital’s research team, oncologists’ and surgeons’ offices, nutritional counseling, patient navigator services, a patient resource library, the Sanofi US Wellness Boutique and complementary medicine services, such as yoga, t’ai chi, meditation and massage. As an affiliate of Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, The Steeplechase Cancer Center offers patients the unique opportunity to receive care from the research physicians of CINJ in a state-of-the-art environment of RWJUH Somerset.

The Sanofi US Breast Care Program is one of only a select few in New Jersey to achieve full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and has also been named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.

The Steeplechase Cancer Center was named in honor of the Far Hills Race Meeting Association, home of one of the most prestigious steeplechase horse races in the country, which has donated more than $18 million to the medical center. The cancer center was made possible through the extraordinary generosity of individuals, organizations, foundations and corporations.

We are proud to be the community’s comprehensive cancer treatment center serving over 2,000 patients annually. But we cannot do it alone. Through the generosity of community members, like yourself, we are able to go above and beyond to fund the latest technologically advanced equipment, capital projects, and other programs and services needed, in order to provide you with the best care possible. Below are funding opportunities when supporting the Steeplechase Cancer Center.

Steeplechase Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund:

The Steeplechase Cancer CenterPatient Assistance Funds supports cancer patients in a myriad of ways.

Funds are used to arrange for transportation for cancer patients to get to and from the Steeplechase Cancer Center for their medical appointments. Not everyone has the transportation means necessary to arrive at their medical appointments. RWJUH Somerset’s Patient Transportation program provides access to care to patients who are in need of transportation. No one in our community should miss their cancer treatment appointment due to lack of transportation.

Funds are also used for other supportive needs for cancer patients, including financial assistance for wigs and prostheses offered at the cancer center’s Sanofi US Wellness Boutique; groceries; medications; house cleaning services and other living expenses.

“Many patients may find themselves struggling to afford everyday living expenses because of their unexpected medical costs following a diagnosis of cancer,” said Kathleen C. Toomey, MD, Medical Director of the Steeplechase Cancer Center. “This added stress can have a negative impact on their overall health and wellness while they are receiving treatment. We are now not only able to offer programs encompassing wellness, prevention and survivorship initiatives, but we’re able to provide support for the basic needs of patients.”

Programs and Services:

Thanks to the generous donations of individuals in our community we are able to provide, in addition to advanced diagnostic and treatment services, programs and amenities for patients, families, and the public. Weekly yoga, reiki, jin shin jyutsu and meditation classes are available to all cancer patients, and massage therapy is available by appointment. Wellness and prevention lectures as well as cooking demonstrations are free for the public. The cancer center offers a number of support groups plus outreach programs to undeserved communities.
