Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
The Cardiovascular Center of Excellence at RWJ was recently selected to be one of the first sites in the nation to offer Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) since the procedure received FDA approval. It is the latest in cardiac treatment breakthroughs being offered by RWJ.
TAVR allows a multidisciplinary team of cardiac surgeons, vascular surgeons, interventional cardiologists and cardiac anesthesiologists at RWJUH and RWJMS to replace a patient’s diseased aortic valve without using traditional open-heart surgery and while the heart continues to beat, avoiding the need for cardiopulmonary bypass.
Stereotaxis: Magnetic Navigation Treatment for Heart Arrhythmias
The Stereotaxis Gentle Touch Magnetic Navigation System offers a high level of precision and safety. Physicians operate two huge magnets, which are positioned outside the body, to precisely maneuver catheters throughout the delicate cardiovascular system.
With the computer to assist in precise navigation, the doctor is then able to focus on the patient and the outcome rather than the mechanics of the procedure.
