Re: My gratitude to the Eating Disorders Unit staff at Robert Wood Johnson Somerset

Dear Mr. Cava,

It is very important for me to express my gratitude to Robert Wood Johnson Somerset. Specifically, I am referring to all staff on your Eating Disorders Unit.

I would like to first start where my journey began: with Maryann from the Access Center. Maryann allowed for my admission process to go smoothly and was more than welcoming as she answered all my questions that I had prior to my admission date.

I have struggled with an eating disorder for many years. Prior to entering Robert Wood Johnson Eating Disorders Program, I felt hopeless. I was not educated on the fact that recovery is possible for people who contend with eating disorders.

Dr. Donnellan and his extraordinary staff go above and beyond the level of care for each patient. Dr. Donnellan and Carly, my therapist, are both compassionate and kind. They made me feel very comfortable in opening up to what was genuinely going on inside that goes beyond just having an eating disorder. Dr. D and Carly actually listen!!!

I was so impressed how each patient receives their own individualized treatment team made up of a psychiatrist, nurse, therapist and dietician. I want to give a special thank you to all the therapists (Lynn, Carly, Brian and Shannon) for an awesome job. Your groups were well thought out and planned, which made them both interesting to sit in on, as well as educational.

I do not want it to go unrecognized and not personally thank Lynn, the Clinical Supervisor, for her devotion and dedication. You do a superior job running the multi-family group on Wednesdays. I became so knowledgeable regarding the triggers and medical dangers that progress with this disorder.

The dietician staff, Christine, Eliza and Kayla, does an impressive job educating the patients on important nutrition facts. They are there for you at all times to guide you in meal planning, and for planning outside when you leave the hospital.

The nurses on the eating disorders unit allowed for my journey to begin comfortably. You are all so caring and nurturing. You were there to satisfy all my needs and concerns.

Mr. Cava, your staff on the eating disorders unit taught me many tools in regards to what it is like to have an eating disorder and that recovery is possible. Today I have hope and it is all due to your phenomenal staff!!!!!!

Thank you,

Michelle Egas

Dear Michelle,

Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your thoughts. I’m so glad that you had a productive experience. So many people think that it is impossible to get better. Hopefully, your letter will go a long way to show people otherwise.

On behalf of the entire Eating Disorders Program here at Robert Wood Johnson Somerset, we wish you the very best in your continued travels.

Sincerely, Dr. Donnellan
