Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Launches Emergency Department Expansion Project

Responding to an increasing need for emergency medicine and trauma care services in the greater Central New Jersey area, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) and RWJBarnabas Health have launched an ambitious Emergency Department expansion project. The project, which began on March 6, 2017, expands RWJUH’s current Emergency Department from 40,000 to 60,000 square feet. Once complete, the Emergency Department will feature more than 100 private treatment areas for patients, including three additional new trauma bays. A new ambulance bay will accommodate eight ambulances at one time. The expanded space also offers patients radiology imaging in the department, which can potentially reduce wait times for test results. The new capacity also allows RWJUH to offer a fast-track option for patients who arrive at the department with less emergent diagnoses.
