Total Skin Electron Beam Therapy for Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma Treatment

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) is one of the only hospitals in the northeast to offer Total Skin Electron Beam Therapy (TSEBT) for the treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). In fact, our center is the only radiation facility to offer TSEBT in the entire state of New Jersey.

About TSEBT

TSEBT treats the entire body's skin surface by using a linear accelerator which produces electron beams. These electron beams penetrate the superficial portion of the skin to treat the lesions. This type of treatment spares deeper tissues and organs of any radiation effects. The course of treatment lasts about nine weeks; however, the daily procedure is outpatient, typically takes under an hour and is generally well tolerated.

Before the Procedure

A comprehensive treatment plan will be developed by your medical team to treat your skin. Your medical team is comprised of a radiation oncologist, dosimetrist, radiation physicist, and radiation therapist.

What You Can Expect

The procedure is outpatient and one session lasts about 40 minutes. One full course of treatment takes approximately nine weeks with 2-4 daily visits per week. RWJUH Radiation Oncologist, Rahul R. Parikh, MD has found TSEBT to be extremely effective for many of his cutaneous lymphoma patients. He has successfully treated patients with this approach, with excellent immediate and long-term results.
